Unknown performance degredation
Last week my NAS suddenly disconnected from network, claiming it just was unable to connect at all. After a reboot everything worked again.
Right after this I found out that my transcoding system became really slow, several minutes needed before transcoding if subtitles were used. It also reduced transcoding time. Doing some tests on network and hdd performance gave close to nothing, and while running the transcoding locally was a lot faster, it was far from as fast as it usually was. I figured my HDDs were becoming slow and hence looked up replacement, but also looked into phasing out my QNAP with a HP microserver. It was put on the after burner for now, but will be looked into further next month.
Now, a week later, I fired up an another batch of videos to transcode, and somehow the problem that existed before was gone. I have no idea why this was the case, but could only assume it was something temporary to do with the RAID on my NAS when it was syncing after reboot. However, I did test this right after it was finished, so I’m out of ideas on this one.
